How we can help
Compliance checks
HMRC is checking a tax or VAT return. We gather the records, answer HMRC's questions and keep the check as narrow as possible.
Nudge letters
HMRC thinks you may have income you haven’t declared, often from online platforms. We check the facts and respond correctly.
Find out morePenalties and appeals
Late filing and late payment penalties challenged where you had a reasonable excuse, and time-to-pay arrangements agreed.
Voluntary disclosures
Income you haven't declared put right through HMRC's Digital Disclosure Service, usually with lower penalties than if HMRC finds it first.
Act quickly, but don't panic
Most HMRC letters have a deadline for your reply. A calm, accurate response early on usually leads to the best outcome.
When a letter arrives
- Step 1Check the letter for a deadline to reply
- Step 2Don't ignore it, but don't reply or pay before taking advice
- Step 3Send us a copy by email, or bring it in
- Step 4We explain what it means and agree the next steps with you
Not sure a letter or text is really from HMRC? Check with us before you reply or pay anything.
Common questions
Can't see your question? Call us on 01924 400216. Advice is always free.
How far back can HMRC look into my tax?
Usually up to 4 years after the end of the tax year, 6 years if an error was careless, and up to 20 years if income was deliberately hidden.
Can you help if I'm not already your client?
Yes. You don't need to be an existing client. We'll review your position and deal with HMRC for you.
Will I have to pay a penalty?
Not always. Penalties depend on why an error happened and whether you told HMRC before they found it. Getting advice early often reduces them.
